Habitat, Growth Conditions

      Basic Information:

In nature, S. rosetta is found in brackish water. It is aerobic, and stays near the surface.

In a lab, the growth conditions must be similar to in nature. The water is around room temperature (~23˚C) and is brackish or sea water with cereal grass such as barley added. For rosettes to form in the lab as in nature, bacteria that provide nutrients to the cells and allow the cell to be regulated must be present.
