S. rosetta is a Choanoflagellate, with its genetic information stored in its nucleus.
The genome has been sequenced, but not much information is available about chromosomes. Plasmids are not naturally involved in S. rosetta, but transfection has recently been done on the species in labs in which they successfully made the cells fluoresce (as seen on the left).
There are cell adhesion, signaling, and rosette-forming genes that have been found in the species.
S. rosetta strain ATCC 50818 contains 11624 genes.
